When To Go to India
The best time to visit India depends on where you want to travel. Its severe climate and natural hazards make it imperative you research and plan your trip accordingly. Check out the Canadian government’s travel advice before you set out. www. voyage.gc.ca
Getting Around India
Perhaps the best way to travel within this large country is by train. The railway system has more than 63,000 kilometres of track and serves more than 11 million people daily. Long trips are possible with the help of sleeper trains, and an Indrail pass, like the Eurorail pass in Europe, allows travellers to take any train, at any time, within a certain time period. Reservations are required for longer journeys, and you can book your seat in advance online or at international tourist bureaus.
Things To Do in India
The Golden Triangle consists of the northern three cities: Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Attractions include the Taj Mahal and the Pink City of Rajasthan. Of India’s 28 states, Rajasthan is one of the most popular tourist destinations. It has a desert landscape and is filled with forts and medieval sites. You can explore the Aravali Mountains or safari by camel, elephant, horse or jeep. The recent introduction of hot-air ballooning has become a popular, modern tourist activity. Darjeeling is known for tea, but its majestic landscape is conducive to more than warm drinks. Its altitude makes for cool weather and a great climate for trekking and hiking. The nearby Teesta River is roughened by runoff water, streaming from the Himalayas. Whitewater rafting has grown popular and the rapids reach up to level IV by international standards. Also in Darjeeling is the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a small steam train that willchug and tug you up into the Himalaya Mountains and bring you back again.
