Of the highest peaks on each of the seven continents, few captivate non-mountaineers as completely as Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro. Rising 19,340 feet out of the sweeping East African plains, Kilimanjaro is not only the highest peak on the continent but the tallest freestanding peak in the world (it is not part of a mountain range). Since first summited in 1889, explorers and adventurers from across the globe have attempted to tackle its snowy summit, a tradition that continues to this day.
Reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro requires no technical skill or previous mountaineering experience. What it does require is careful planning, fitness and solid support. While there are certainly less expensive ways to conquer Kili, the Alpine Ascents’ attempt guarantees a safe and scenic effort, with a greater chance of success than if tackling it independently or with less experienced guides. Plus, this tour includes an unforgettable Tanzanian wildlife safari afterwards—once-in-a-lifetime trips don’t get much better than this!
This 15-day trip sees you spend seven days summiting Kilimanjaro via the Machame Route. Led by an Alpine professional mountain guide and with a success rate of over 95 percent, this option has been carefully designed for maximum acclimatization. Trekking through five distinct ecosystems, this classic climb provides breathtaking views and a good chance of summit success even for beginners. (For more ambitious trekkers, Alpine also offers a nine-day Lemosho Route trek that includes the opportunity to sleep on the crater rim after reaching the summit.)
After the trek, you set out to do a classic African safari. Travelling via overland vehicle and staying in luxurious lodges, you visit Ngorongoro Crater and the national parks of Tarangire and Serengeti for some of East Africa’s most iconic scenery and greatest of all wildlife. A spectacular experience!
